I suggest we listen to Allen Keys. He's the only I've heard who tells it like it is. I just finished reading his News Letter Keyes 2000 and I like what he has to say. I'll back him any day.

I've heard his name in passing, but I can't say I have any first hand knowledge of who he is.

FYI - he's actually been a candidate for president (if it's the same Allen Keys I'm thinking of) within the last eight years. I believe he's run as a democrat, but maybe Aileen could fill in the gaps?

Alan Keys is the Steppin Fetchit of the vast right wing conspiracy.

He's one of the big voices in the repeal-the-income- tax movement. (he's also referred to as "ambassador") But all I've seen of his ideas is that the IRS should be got out of our pockets and out of existence. I hope Aileen will help out with details.
Take care, Shannon

If's he's big in the repeal-the-income-tax movement, then maybe I remember wrong and he ran as a republican *grin*?

i love you guys. very elucidating. four respondents, five answers and i can take my pick.
why don't we try to reconstruct him? i'll go first:
1. allen keys is notorious, well known to the police. (i can't go far wrong with that: bill clinton is well known to the police.)

If you look for him thru one of the net search engines you'll find that he's a gizmo, designed by the same folks that did allen wrenchs, for fixing bikes and such. Technology has a leveling effect on our best efforts.
good day

i looked for him on altavista, and among all those screwdrivers, gears, bicycles and garages i found a mention of allen keys, evangelist. when i got to the page, his name had already been dropped.

Gotta spell the name right, unfortunately - looked in the database project I'm currently working on under Allen Keyes and came up with this url:
http://www.cats.org/keyes.html
Provides text from a speech he made during his 1996 presidential candidacy.
Hmmmph.

Your not being quite fair. The url is as you show it but the first line in normal font is:
As a candidate in the Presidential election of 1996, Ambassador Keys voiced this opinion of the proposal to replace federal income taxes with a national sales tax.
I've been beaten on already for misreading mispelling names; i've become thin skinned. Anyway, maybe this is what is meant by politicians being all things to all people.
Aileen-this is your fault for not defending your man in the first place. (grin) If you're not laughing at us too hard to type, tell us why you like this man's ideas. None of us agree on anything anyway; join the club.
take care,
Shannon

Hi ya Shannon:
I have to admit, I really thought it was K-E-Y-S as well, but I asked my office mate this morning (M.A. in journalism and a complete political junkie) who told me there was an E at the end - that's how I found the site so quickly. There were other sites as well that were all relevant to him at the top of the query results, leading me to believe that's the correct spelling, and the "Keys" in the first line of normal font a mistake. Now if only those web site designers masters could get it straight ...
And yes, Shannon, where is Aileen? Or Grape1, or Oldfogey, or Macro, or Javalover. Hello, hello, is everybody else out there?!
Cheers -
Denise

This is a great experiment, filled with potential and I hope it works. I would love to discuss ideas, hopes, fears and critiques of public figures. But gee wiz! Alan Keyes? The pious right-wing just doesn't make it with me. Keyes makes Clarence Thomas look like an intellect of great importance.
17. blacks and the Republican party

I can understand the concept of black Republicans. Although it's far out of touch with the average person, the Republican party was the party of Lincoln. The Democratic party, particularly down South, was a home for segregationists. I'm a Jew and I still can't buy a German car, even though I don't pass these feelings on to the post-Holocaust German generation.
24. Having read all the above guess I need to jump in.

I like Ambassador Alam Keys because he tells it like it is. The TRUTH is something some people just can't stand to hear. Why don't you do a little more listen to what he has to say and PLEASE I hope you are color blind. Don't let the fact that he is black make a difference.
He believes we should forgive Bill Clinton but forgiveness doesn't eliminate accountability! He said,"I can forgive your drundenness--BUT YOU STILL CAN"T DRIVE ME HOME!" He He He How does that grab you??????
25. aileen, thanks for speaking up and sparing us more sleepless nights

i think i can take most truths, even the one about alan k. whose ambassador is he?
as to the drunk driving, the simile isn't very apt, is it? america chose clinton to lead it politically and not as a role model. considering the alternatives, he was quite a good choice.
if i had an ugly daughter i probably wouldn't want her to be an intern at the white house. on the other hand, if she were and the cigar caused her to become pregnant, at least she would still have an option, a more conservative president-and-father-to-be might have blocked.
