The following exchange is from Dialogue Group 6, Thread 2.

1. Do you think Starr should shut down his investigation of Bill Clinton?
Tue, Dec 8, 1998 - 1:22 PM/EST
Aileen2

This is a question I am hearing a lot these days. I get more mail from both sides and it seems a lot of people would like for him to finish the job. I must confess I am among them. He didn't ask for this job but was appointed to it, so why don't they let him finish it and hopefully get to the truth about everything. I wonder if that's possible?
We can bet our bottom dollar that the liberals don't want us to learn the truth about Clinton and his role in the Whitewater, Travelagate, FBI Filegate, and Kethleen Willey scandals.
I guess we are safe in saying time will tell.
Let's hear from you.

4. Starr Investigation
Tue, Dec 8, 1998 - 9:09 PM/EST
Rikstafer2

Aileen, I could not have said it better. I totally agree with all your points! I just wanted to post and let you know that. I can't believe this, All these posts and no major disagreements yet :) Very unlike Group 1 was. Remember-Starr tried to quit and go to teach at Pepperdine; Yet was persuaded to finish his inquiry.

5. Are you talking about me?
Tue, Dec 8, 1998 - 9:34 PM/EST

heh heh.... I am a liberal, although not liberal enough for my peers, but I do want to get to the bottom of all this...I want to know the truth, even if I don't like it. If Clinton has done anything unethical or illegal, I want to know about it and I want the American people to know about it too. None of my liberal-er friends want anything suppressed or covered up. I do want any investigation or inquiry or trial or impeachment to follow the rules of our constitution, though. I am not sure that Ken Starr has always done that but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. What I and my liberal-er friends are somewhat concerned about is the fact that Mr. Starr was appointed to investigate certain matters and seems to have found nothing worth publishing or trumpeting. If there are questionable activities, concerning Whitewater, "Filegate", "Travelgate" and the like, I want to know about it... not where Mr. Clinton's zipper was pulled.

6. an international perspective?

i suppose i am what you would call a liberal. still when the israeli police didn't come up with the goods on our most beloved and revered p.m. i was strongly in favour of dropping the whole thing. there's just so much mudracking you can and should take. while willy winky's administration may resemble a compost heap in smell and composition, after four years of turning it over, no body has been discovered yet. coming up with the bones of monica's dead kitten is poor value for the costs the upheaval has caused.

7. Conservatively Liberal

Most people don't understand my politics or my perspective on issues so I seldom spout them except in parable format. Suffice it to say, I am liberal socially and conservative politically. That means I think people should be free to conduct their lives in any way they want without guidance, support or restraint by government. Government should be restricted to doing those things we cannot do as individuals.

With that background, I will tell you that I don't care whether the Starr investigation continues or not. I do appreciate the fact that the present squabbles are distracting government from meddling into things they usually mismanage. Some people are concerned that Congress is going to be tied up and unable to conduct business. Hooray!

Some think I come off an anarchist. Nothing could be further from the truth. (farther?) I just know that people in little out of the way places are the real movers and shakers in this country and the less fettered they are by their neighbors in government, the better off we will all be.

Shut it down, the hypocrites love to dance with
each other. A dangerous precedent here, end it.
