To help answer common questions about Reality Check, we're going to use this page to compile some basic information about the project and how the Dialogue works. If you have any questions not covered here, please send us some Feedback.
Q. I've misplaced my password. Is there a feature on the site that will remind me?
A. If you remember your username, enter it in the Members' Entrance, and Reality Check will display the "Password reminder" you specified when you registered. If you still need a reminder, just contact us and we'll email your username and password to you. You must send us your real name, your group number, and for security purposes, include the original email address you registered from. (A tip: the next time you log in, check the box that reads "Remember my screen name and password" and they will be stored in your computer and automatically appear in the login form every time you return from that computer.)
Q. I can't get in, even though I remember my username and password! It keeps telling me I do not "exist in the database." What gives?
A. Nine times out of ten, it's a simple matter of checking capitalization. Reality Check usernames and passwords are case-sensitive, so take care to enter them exactly as you did when you registered.
Q. For some weird reason, my post appeared twice in the thread. What's up with that?
A. Typically, "double postings" happen when a user hits the post button, nothing seems to happen, and then hits it again. When the Reality Check server is busy, it can seem like nothing is happening, but actually a post gets sent each time you hit the post button. So, it's usually best to wait until the "Thanks for posting" confirmation message comes up.
Q. I just submitted a post, and then checked to see if it was there - and it wasn't! Do you select or delete posts before they go up?
A. We do not delete any posts based on their content, unless they fall outside the site parameters (which we rarely do) and we will always contact you if this happens. After you submit your post, wait until the confirmation message comes up. Please contact us if you suspect your post was lost. Let us know when (date & time) you posted, what group you are in, which threads were involved, and if you have been able to post successfully since then. This information will help us narrow down when a technical glitch may have occurred.
Q. I am a member assigned to a particular group but I don't see how to post or create a new thread. How does this thing work?
A. It sounds like you're entering Reality Check through the Public Entrance (or using the pull-down menu to visit other Dialogue Groups), that doesn't allow visitors to post or create threads. After you log in through the Members' Entrance, you'll see a list of currently active threads in your Group. You can start a new thread by clicking on "Add Thread" or edit your personal profile by clicking on "Personal Options". Click on any of the threads and you should see a box at the bottom of the page for you to post a message in that thread. This should be enough to get you started!
Q. I signed up recently to be a member but the system won't let me in?
A. Most likely you have yet to received the email notifying you that your group has begun. We appreciate your interest but please be patient - we can't start your group until we have enough new registrants willing to participate. Most groups start within a week of registering.
