Honorable Members Of Congress
The people of this great country look to Washington for leadership, justice, and guidance on difficult issues. You now are faced with a very serious task, a task that should not be taken lightly, a task that divides this country and the political parties.
As members of Congress you must stand and be heard, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans. You must stand as did Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and John Hancock at the first Continental Congress, as did Ethan Allen, and George Washington on the colonial battle fields. For this is a time when historians of the future will look back upon each of you and pass judgement as to who were the true patriots of our time.
In the days and weeks to come, I challenge every member of Congress to look for truth, not legal side-stepping, and to uphold the things that made this country great: honesty, integrity, and loyalty to your oaths of office.
It saddens me to see my children look at our system of government as though it were a laughing matter. Is this the same system I looked upon with awe as a child? Is this the same system based on truth and justice, or is this a system based on political seperation and ruled by coporate donations?
I hope not, for all of our sakes.
