Open Letters to Henry Hyde

December 20, 1998
CT

Dear Mr. Hyde,

Congratulations. You have managed to do in 6 weeks what Newt couldn't in do in 6 years with his Contract on America. You have convinced me to leave the Republican party, a mean spirited, revengeful and hypocritical party, once and for all. President Clinton SHOULD NOT be impeached. The House is not doing the people's business, it is doing the business of the Republican party. Last week I changed my registration to Democrat. At the very least if President Clinton is impeached ALL REPRESENTATIVES who have committed similar offenses like Mr. Livingston should resign or be expelled.

It appears Congress needs a reality check and needs to get its head out of the sand (I would have said it differently except I'm trying to keep it cleaner than Starr). What President Nixon was a crime against the country. What President Reagan did by selling arms to Iran and donating the proceeds to the Contras was a crime against the country. What President Clinton did was a crime only against his family.

What Congress is doing is trying to remove a popular President because they are frustrated politically. This whole situation is politically motivated and should not proceed. And please remember the Christian right is neither (another reason for distancing myself from Republicans). They should think of Christ especially at this time of year.

Jim Castle
