Open Letters to Henry Hyde

December 3, 1998
Austin, TX

Dear Rep. Hyde,

I have viewed with dismay the impeachment hearings and the ever more partisan direction they are taking.

I found the actions of the President in the "Monica" affair to be extremely disturbing. Words fail me to describe my revulsion. Little did I know that the subsequent actions of parading this filth on the internet would far exceed my distaste for Clinton's behavior.

I have been for most of my adult life a staunch Republican in my preferences and my actions in life, but I do not condone the expansion of the hearings beyond Judge Starr's report to Congress. Please note that the conservative circles I socialize in are beginning to question the direction the committee is now taking. To many observers this falls under the heading of simply not being fair.

If there is a basis for voting articles of impeachment in Judge Starr's report, do so. Otherwise, let us move on beyond this sordid affair.

CE Howard
