Open Letters to Henry Hyde

December 20, 1998
Edison, NJ

Dear Chairman Hyde,

I have great respect for you. Your selection to head the inquiry was a hopeful sign in this whole sordid affair. But things have deteriorated too far. There is not even a semblance of bipartisanship, what Rodino accomplished during Watergate. This looks more like "railroading". Moreover, the level of hypocrisy and double standards are breathtaking. You are supposedly the good, moral people judging a liar and an adulterer. When your, Livingston's and Burton's illicit affairs became public, it turned out that adultery was not so bad after all, and the problem is lying about it. In fact, you had defended a congressman's improper sexual behavior towards a teenage Congressional page. Now what would you say to that as a religious person and a good Christian? You certainly aspire for history to judge you with as much reverence as Peter Rodino. But are you even coming close?
