Open Letters to The American People

Dear American People,

As I read over much of the media-play, letters to editors, and opinion poll quotes I am saddened by the hypocrisy I see. Even more saddening, however, is the obvious jealousy I detect; yes jealousy. Everyone wants to be famous, powerful, rich (in money or influence) and attractive, and so the office of the president is one that everyone scrutinizes heavily. I am just a mother and a student, but I admit to having the same goals in life that everyone else has: house, money, grandchildren, friends, lifelong love and security. I consider myself a moral person; I joined the Friends (Quakers) because I believed in their ideals of total honesty and action-oriented virtue. I took a vow of complete honesty and can say that in five years I have not broken it at all.

I teach my children that honesty brings its own reward in spite of the short-term pain it may bring momentarily. I look to this country to allow me my basic rights and love her for that. Then I see how greedily the American People suck up a scandal such as this and I am saddened. When it was revealed that JFK had numerous affairs, people seemed to shrug their shoulders, not shake their fists. When Jim Bakker was exposed, people laughed, they didn't scream for him to return all donations. When Miss America had nude pictures published people went out and bought them, they didn't return them.

I see the people who never liked Clinton shake with indignation and wail on about truth and "staining" the Oval Office. I see people who supported Clinton cry foul on the right to privacy. Does anyone care about the job that Clinton is doing NOW? After all, he's still president, running the country. No, all that matters is whether or not the "anti-Clintonians" have their way or if the "Clintonistas" can have their way. This isn't about Clinton anymore, is it America? It's about whether or not the Democrats or Republicans are more powerful.

This is about who is the more outraged. This is about who is the most moral of all. This is about embarrassing the other guy. I see political pundits on the TV talk about who has more seats and who has more influence and who had it last time and who's going to get it this time.... I would be sickened if I wasn't so saddened.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

The political parties are pulling your strings and you're dancing like a fool. You think you're outraged?

Why aren't you voting out of office all of those guys who've been doing whatever they like while pointing your attention towards the Blue Dress?

Show me some real outrage America, give to the poor and vote independant!

Peaux Small
