No, not that Travel Department! ?:)
I wanted to find out if any of you have ever been to Scotland. I'm going in May and want to know if anyone has recommendations or warnings.
And I thought it would be interesting to see what countries we've all visited and compare their pros and cons to the U.S.

but I have friends who have been tio Scotland. I'll contact them and ask for trheir recommendations.
Even though I spent 20+ years in the AF, I didn't travel much. Phillipines, Korea, Okinawa - that's it. For the vast majority of that time, I was so young, and stupid, that I didn't take advantage of the opportunity to learn anything about the country.
Since leaving the AF, I have gone to Germany once. It was a wonderful experience. As I said, we were in buildings built before the Revolutionary War. That gave me a perspective on time that I'd never considered.
Tell us a little more about your planned trip. Business, pleasure, group?

Our daughter and her fiancee have decided they don't want a big fussy wedding and reception, so decided to be married in Fyvie Castle, then tour the British Isles during their honeymoon. It will be a simple wedding in spite of being in a castle.
We'll go our seperate ways after the ceremony, but my husband and I decided to take the opportunity to make a vacation of it for ourselves.
I got to see the Frankfort airport in '84 (during a bomb scare). I hope to get back there and see the country one day. What cities did you visit?

Yes, I've been there several times. Go, and look up in awe at Edinburgh Castle from the train station. It blows your mind the first time. Go way up to the north into the highlands. Look for the Loch Ness monster. Go to the Isle of Skye. Enjoy yourself. It's an interesting place to vacation and I'd say that even though I weren't a Scot.
Another place I recommend completely is Thailand. I was there last January and found it fascinating. Right now, you can go there for a seven night stay in a good hotel, including air fair and breakfasts for less than $800. it's a whale of a value if you want to see a new and different culture.

I shared your post with my daughter, and your enthusiasm has her even more excited than she was about this trip. Thanks for the sunshine! Or in the case of Scotland, thanks for the mist. ?:)
