I received this, in part, from Barry Joseph of Reality Check today. From this, it seems that they may not be starting any new groups.

" Given that the process might end any day now, t looks like we will not be launching any more groups. If you guys are closed down, you are all free to re-sign up and be launched in a new group, but we can't promise that a new group will be started."

I recommend each of us send feedback to RC to let them know how this more forum has become than an Impeachment forum. We've discussed many issues, and are exploring means that we can effect change. They obviously have problems with their server, from the newsletter today, and perhaps this is one reason they don't want to form new groups.

Send e-mail via feedback!

Regards,

Jim

22. Here's what I received...

Hello DG13,

As many of you have noticed, today is the closing date for your Reality Check group, DG13. In the past, we have been able to offer the option to continue the group, however, with the impeachment process about to end (famous last words), we are reluctant to extend any groups at this point, in preparation for bringing this phase of Reality Check to a close.

We've extended the closing date to midnight, Friday, Feb 5th to give you some extra time to say your goodbyes, write about what you've gotten out of your involvement in Reality Check in general and DG13 in particular, etc. Your group has already created a thread for just this purpose (you read our minds!).

In a few weeks, we will be sending out a post-group survey, similar to the last one, which we would appreciate your filling out.

Finally, since your group is closing, you will no longer be receiving the newsletter. However, if you would like to continue receiving information about what's going on at RC, we invite you to subscribe at: http://www.realitycheck.com/subscribe

On behalf of the whole crew behind the curtains here at Web Lab, I want to personally thank you for an extraordinary four weeks and for your willingness to join us in this experiment.

All the best,
Marc

22. Well, We seem to be too late, but

I just read Gayle's post 23. I also sent the following feedback.

To: Barry Joseph
Reality Check

I received your e-mail this morning indicating that Reality Check may not be starting any new groups.

First, I want to thank you very much for the opportunity to have participated thus far. It has been a real education, and one which I wish to continue.
Second, I think it is the consensus of all active members of Group 13 that we, and you, continue. We, in Group 13 have broadened our discussions beyond the impeachment hearings to many other issues. And from reading the Dialogues in other Groups I see that this is true there also. We have discussed Gun Control, Media Responsibility, Kosovo, racism,Responsibilities of the legislators, and on and on.

I don't have any real idea whether the decision not to start new groups is final, what elements went into the decision, or whether you intend to modify the forum from lessons learned in this one. I sense that you are having problems with your server, and that may be a partial input to the decision. I also sense that the costs are more than you had anticipated. The good publicity on NPR and others increased the volume significantly I would imagine. On the other hand, it would defeat the openness of the forum to require a subscription fee in order to participate in a forum. Is there another way some of us could contribute to help with the costs?

Sincerely,

Jim

I sent this message to Feedback. All of you who want to continue in this way should send Feedback an email and let them know.

Hey Guys,

I just want to start out by saying how much this forum has meant to me. Although I am not terribly interested in the impeachment process itself, the concept of "dialogue groups" such as these was too good to pass up. These groups have exceeded my wildest expectations. The participants come from all walks and political views of life, and are all able and willing to share their opinions and actually discuss important issues that face us today.

As you may be aware, DG13 and most (if not all) of the other groups vastly exceeded the sum of their parts, that is, impeachment is no longer necessary as a main topic to keep these groups going. We are talking about so many other things that are important to all of us, and there is no indication that the end of the Senate trial would have any effect on these discussions. The service you provide here is simply too good to let it die with the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

I, along with most everyone in DG13, would like to request that the RC service be continued beyond the impeachment proceedings. A good number of us would like to be included in a new dialogue group together. I can email you a list of these names so that we can be included together. Just let me know.

As JimP from DG13 mentioned in an earlier letter, many of us would be willing to help with costs or operations with RC if it would help solve any difficulties you guys may be having.

Finally, if you guys are really determined to end this type of thing, I would like to request that my email address be released to the members of DG13 so that we can keep in touch.

Thanks,

-Tyler

Forgive me, but it was late when I found your post last night...so I got lazy, cut and pasted it to the Feedback form, added a little note of my own to say that you'd said it well for all of us, then begged them to do something. ?:)

I've got my fingers crossed.

this is what i just sent them. not quite as eloquent as tyler's, but still the same point:
-----

hello there-

as you may have noticed from the volume
of emails you've been receiving lately
from DG13, it is the consensus of the
remaining members that we be allowed to
extend our time together. if this is not
possible, we would like to at least be
able to travel together to a new group.

we all received the message yesterday that
RealityCheck is considering ending the
groups, as it looks as though the
impeachment trial may soon end as well.
however, as i'm sure you're aware, DG13
and most of the rest of your groups
quickly moved well beyond the impeachment
process for our topics of discussion.

it would be a real shame, as well as a
blow to the whole ideology behind Reality
Check, if you were to end the dialogues
merely because the trial will be soon
ending.

if you are unable to continue, though,
many of us in DG13 have expressed
willingess to exchange our email
addresses so that we would be able to
keep in touch. we would like your help
in figuring out how to do this.

thank you.

OK; as the lazy one of the group so far, I'll put mine here:

felix@felixgrant.com

If anyone wants to send me theirs in an email, I'll act as clearing house for passing them on.

Sorry I haven't contributed in awhile. Been unexpectedly busy but have been catching up on the reading.

A different forum that would allow discussions to continue is e-groups. Look at it at www.egroups.com
